Field Trip to Vukovar
On September 30, Year 8 students went on a two-day field trip to Vukovar. During those two days, they visited the Memorial Centre of the Homeland War and several important sites: the former barracks, Borovo Naselje, Trpinjska Road, Vukovar Hospital, the Memorial Cemetery, Ovčara, the Vukovar Water Tower, and the Church of St. Philip and St. James. They learned more about the Battle of Vukovar, about heroism and suffering, but also about the importance of peace and tolerance.
The students also visited the Vukovar City Museum in Eltz Castle, which was named the most beautiful European museum in 2016, and the Vučedol Culture Museum, one of the most significant prehistoric archaeological sites in Europe.
This trip meant a lot to them. They realized that history is not just something you read about in books, but real human stories. They learned how much Vukovar sacrificed for the freedom of our country and why it is important to cherish peace. The students returned home filled with impressions, pride, and gratitude to the heroic city.
