Year 4 students, accompanied by their class teachers Marijana and Marta and their English language teacher Bojana, visited the Rijeka City Puppet Theatre on 6 May 2022. We watched The Emperor's New Clothes, a play inspired by the work of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The old folktale was given a modern twist with a contemporary setting and new technologies used. The play raises questions about unemployment, child labour, bad leaders, fear of judgement and incompetence. After watching the play, the audience is left thinking: Do I do what other people are doing or agree with the opinion of others simply because I don't want to be judged? Should I go with the flow or should I shout out the truth like the child at the end of The Emperor's New Clothes?

After the Puppet Theatre, we visited the newly renovated Zajc Theatre Gallery where we learned a lot about the heritage of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka. We climbed the narrow stairways to reach the “Klimt Viewing Platform”, a gallery on the top floor. From there, we admired the beautiful works of art on the ceiling of the Theatre created by the famous Gustav Klimt. We also explored the magical world of the theatre: set design, lighting, costumes, make up, valuable documents and photographs. We tried on different hats used in some of the plays and learned many anecdotes about the history of the Theatre. Finally, we wrote down our impressions and thoughts on the visit and put the notes in a “Time Capsule” for some future generations to read.
