Using Images to Prompt Speaking
Autor: Bojana Palijan, 18. 2. 2022.

Using images to prompt speaking is definitely one of the key strategies used in our English classroom. Students often get projects where they have to write as little as possible and give short speeches on certain topics just by looking at the pictures. Students describe what they see in the pictures using vocabulary they have learnt within a thematic unit. Images serve as guidelines, leading students through their speech and making it more structured. This way, students avoid learning sentences by heart while images activate students’ knowledge of the topic. They also immediately catch our attention and make content easier to understand for the listeners.

Students always get to choose between making a digital or a traditional poster presentation. In the examples below you can see two traditional poster presentations which helped our 4th graders give short speeches on the topic of My Daily Routine.
