2024-06-14 15:17:00 My trip to Venice and Lido di Jesolo Read our student's report from Lido di Jesolo where Emi went as one of the European finalists in the international English language competition - Hippo Language Olympiad European Qualifiers 2024.
When I found out that I had passed the Hippo exam, and was one of the European Qualifiers, I was over the moon. The news that my English teacher, Bojana, and I would be spending three days in Lido di Jesolo, close to Venice, made my excitement even bigger. When the day finally came, my mum drove us to the pick-up spot. As the bus arrived, I said goodbye to her and climbed aboard, bursting with anticipation. The bus ride felt endless, but when we finally arrived and found our hotel, the tiredness from the journey started to melt away. My teacher was staying in the hotel across from mine, so we checked into our respective rooms. Exhausted, I was glad for a moment to rest. Originally, we planned to go to Venice that day, but the rain and our late arrival forced us to reschedule for the next day. Disappointed, yet hopeful for better weather, we settled in. When the skies cleared, teacer Bojana and I set out for a walk along the main street, which stretches for 14 kilometers. We managed to cover half of it, enjoying the long stroll. For lunch, we discovered a cozy pizza place where the pizza was delicious and satisfying. Afterward, we wandered to the beach. Though the sandy shore was beautiful, I couldn't help but think about how much I disliked finding sand in unexpected places after a beach visit. By evening, we returned to our hotels for dinner. The pasta served was delicious and filling. Retreating to my room, I soon fell into a deep sleep, tired but happy.
The next morning, I woke up early for breakfast, eager to try the buffet. The croissants, jams, bread, cheese, salami, and coffee made for a delightful start to the day. I crafted a sandwich and enjoyed a croissant with jam before briefly heading back to my room. Soon, it was time for my exam. Bojana and I found the exam venue, and after a short wait, I was ushered into a classroom with a group of students from around Europe. The 45 minutes of the test felt like an eternity, and I left the room feeling anxious about my results. Bojana was there to reassure me, and we headed off to Venice. Venice was everything I had hoped for and more. While the rest of our group went for lunch, my tracher and I ventured off on our own as we had already eaten. We spent hours wandering the streets, capturing memories with our cameras, savoring the most incredible ice cream, and exploring the unique shops. I treated myself to a bracelet, two magnets, and a small tiny glass squirrel sculpture. I really enjoyed the trip. That evening, we gathered at a theatre to hear the test results. To my suprise, I placed 9th in my category. Proud and relieved, we returned to our hotel rooms to rest.
The next morning's breakfast was just as enjoyable as the previous one. After packing our bags, we hit the road home, my heart full of unforgettable memories and zero regrets about the trip.
